Countless gringos make the pilgrimage to Baja kiteboarding each year. The windy season typically runs from November through March coinciding with many of us trying to escape the winter cold.
Both of these Baja kiteboarding destinations experience El Norte winds during the winter months creating side shore conditions that peak with at least one extremely windy day during the storm. Light winds occur between these storms and are often too light to ride. There is less wind in Los Barriles than
La Ventana kiteboarding
but the surf is bigger and its closer to Cabo than La Paz - both of which have flights from the US and Canada.
For a day trip you can hit the Pacfic Coast at Punta Conejo. It's a couple hours drive and has great surf, and generally onshore wind. Keep going up the coast and you hit other good surf spots such as Punta Abreojos. The wind here is side-off so only for the brave, experienced and those with friends to help out in case something goes amiss.
To the South of San Carlos and closer to Punta Abreojos, you will find nice waves and side shore winds, more friendly for all, at Santa Rosalita.
