Kiteboarding Equipment - Getting What You Need
There are several major things to think about when you are buying kiteboarding equipment. Kiteboarding gear is a little more complicated than your average sporting equipment purchase.
The essential pieces that you will need to own include
kites
with bar and lines,
kiteboards,
and
a harness.
For each of these you will want to consider the conditions, your ability, and your budget.
Buying new gear is always a good idea if you love the latest stuff but its kind of like buying a car, you lose money once its been driven out of the lot. Then again, if you like using kiteboarding gear for one season only, you can get a decent price for selling it one season old. Expect to get fully set up with new kiteboarding gear for as much as $2000 USD.
If buying used gear, we recommend buying gear from 2005 onwards. The improvements to kiteboarding equipment in terms of both safety and performance are growing in leaps and bounds through these early years of this sports development.
Consider buying used kiteboarding gear if you want to save money and want to feel good about upgrading and trying out new stuff more often. There are many innovations in kiting and no one ends up owning equipment for too long. Buying used makes you feel better about keeping up with the latest kiting technology. I bought a season old kite with bar and lines, a board and a harness for $550 USD. It is possible.
Buy used gear from a reliable source because its difficult to know what you like so new to the sport. Try a few different brands in a variety conditions before settling on a style. And that too, will change.
