Stop into Kite Point which is a good place to check out when first in Cape Hatteras kiteboarding. There you will meet other kiters with useful information. Another launch is Salvo Day Launch. The water is shallow enough that you can touch the bottom and the shore is a slightly protected cove, which reduces some of the chop. Kiteboarding Hatteras provides abundant options because there are plenty of shallow beds in the area. Another thing to do when on vacation here is to take advantage of the endless coast line to enjoy those awesome downwinders. Kite Point is a good place to either start an epic downwinder or finish one. Kiteboarding Hatteras is best from April through November. Although there is wind during the winter but it’s much colder. In general, the temperatures vary in this part of the world. It can be as low as 11°C (50s F) at its coldest in the winter season. Wetsuits are required in the spring and fall and maybe even on a cool day in the summer – this is the Atlantic. Both summer water and air temperatures can be very nice at mid to high 20s C (80s F) so you just never know. Bring your kiteboarding gear, all your kites, boards and wetsuits because you’ll see a range of wind that is typical for the locations further from the equator. Cape Hatteras is not a huge party scene. It’s a fun place to drive to with a group of friends, and rent a big house for cheap – a great way to save money. One more tip . . . for new kiters, you might want to hook up with a REAL kiteboarding camp to get some instruction and make contacts. Return from Kiteboarding Hatteras to Kiteboarding Locations |
